Barwon South West Region

The Barwon SouthWest region includes the major population centre of Geelong, the regional centres of Warrnambool, Portland, Hamilton, and Casterton, smaller semi-rural communities, and isolated rural areas.

The Regional Mental Health Promotion Officer is based in Geelong, with the Barwon Primary Mental Health Team. The position resources both the Barwon Health Network and the SouthWest Healthcare Network

Work undertaken by the MHPO aims to increase worker and community awareness around mental health issues for young people and improving access to local mental health services.

Key areas of work include:

• Providing education and training for workers on mental health issues.
• Collaborating with the primary care, education and community services sectors.
• Collaborating with the primary care, education and community services sectors.
• Participating in projects which aim to promote the mental health and wellbeing of young people.
