Eastern Metro Region
The Eastern Metropolitan health region covers metropolitan, semi-rural and rural communities. The activities undertaken by the MHPO aim to increase workers and community knowledge and understanding of mental health issues for young people by:
- Provision of professional development seminars
- Distribution of a newsletter
- Participation in projects which aim to promote the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people
- Identifying opportunities for new mental health promotion projects
- Participating in national and statewide projects such as MindMatters and the STEP Project (see this site).
- Working in partnership with other services and organisations such as schools, youth services, family services.
About Eastern Health Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (EHCAMHS)
EHCAMHS is a specialist mental health service for children and adolescents up to 18 years of age, and their families in the outer eastern area of Melbourne which includes metropolitan, semi-rural and rural communities.
Accessing the service
Referrals are directed to the Intake team who determine the suitability of the referral. Once the referral is accepted the Intake worker provides an initial appointment time and the name of the Case Manager for the child. Phone Intake on 9870 9788
Organisation of EHCAMHS
EHCAMHS has three community teams based in Ringwood, Ferntree Gully, Box Hill.. The service also has an inpatient unit for young people 12-18 years of age, a Day Program, a Mobile Adolescent Team (MAT) who provide an assertive and flexible outreach service to young people at extreme risk, and an Education Centre. EHCAMHS also provides consultation services at the primary, secondary and tertiary level.
Eastern Health CAMHS also provides a number of seminars for health, welfare and education workers in the Eastern region. These seminars provide information on a range of mental health topics. For more details contact julie.blacker@easternhealth.org.au
