Grampians Region
The Grampians region covers an area of over 48,000 square kilometres from Bacchus Marsh to the South Australian border. The Mental Health Promotion Officer (MHPO) works from the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, based in Ballarat, to provide services throughout the region.
The MHPO for the Grampians region works with the health welfare and education sectors to increase their ability to respond to the mental health needs of young people. The MHPO aims to enhance knowledge about mental health and mental illness. This is achieved through liaison and collaboration with external providers, facilitation of training, and provision of education programs for young people. Suicide prevention is an underlying principle. Promoting positive mental health is a key strategy. The MHPO works in schools and agency settings.
